India to get more Harley assembly plants

Every single Japanese company has a bike in the cruiser segment. Suzuki Boulevard and Yamaha Streamliner to name a few. Even the very Indian Bajaj has Avenger to trend in the section. But nothing can ever match a Harley Davidson. Right? Harley Davidson, has a monopoly over cruiser bike production and hence is the single largest manufacturer in the field and now it seems to be overwhelmed with the Indian market.  Harley is also playing really safe when it comes to pricing and hence the sales graph is bound to move the north direction.

India is one of the largest two wheeler market in the world and a fiercely escalating one too. Harley Davidson does not seem to neglect this and is considering assembling more models in its Haryana facility which is located at Bawal. The exceptional thing about the plant is that it is the second plant established by Harley Davidson outside the United States, the prior being in Brazil. The potential the company sees in India can be explained above.

At present 5 of the 15 models listed in Harley’s current Indian portfolio are assembled in Bawal. After the enormous positive feedbacks from the Indian customers, the company is ready to take a step ahead and launch some new variants in this elite range. “We are keen to start assembling more models at Bawal. But such a decision will depend on customer feedback. If there is demand for a particular model we might explore the option of assembling more models here in the country,” commented Mr. Anoop Prakash , Managing Director, Harley
Davidson India.

Mr. Prakash also stated that assembling few of the new models will ultimately release to cost reduction of  the bike which is one of the most important aspects when functioning in India. In fact, the same technique was adopted by the bike earlier to bring out one of its  bikes at a “Superlow” cost which was lowest Harley India had even been at 5.5 lakhs  (“SuperLOW”?) which was 1.5 lakhs lesser than the earlier price.
